Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming a grant of $1,525,599.77 for the Port Administration from the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These federal dollars support dredging work based on Tropical Storm Gita damages in the village of Faleasao, Manu'a, island of Ta'u.

"Congratulations to Port Director Taimaleleagi Dr. Claire Poumele and her team for these funds," said Aumua Amata. "Thank you for this important work."

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming a grant of $943,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for improvements to the Port of Pago Pago, American Samoa.

This discretionary grant will fund the purchase of a yard floodlighting system, rehabilitation of the dock fendering system, resurfacing of the container yard, and procurement of forklifts.

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming over $1.38 million for American Samoa's airports from the CARES Act through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as announced by Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.

"These federal funds through the CARES Act coronavirus relief effort will help sustain airport operations during this time of precautions and fewer flights," said Aumua Amata. "I want to pass along our definite appreciation to my good friend, Secretary Chao, and FAA Administrator Steve Dickson."

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a federal Department of Transportation grant of $1.5 million for road projects tied to Storm Gita damages.

"These federal funds help our Territory's efforts to continue to rebuild from our major storm last year," said Aumua Amata. "I want to specially thank Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and the Department for this discretionary grant."

Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomes a grant of $2.5 million from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT). This grant will be used at the airport in Fitiuta to reconstruct the runway lighting system. The runway lighting system has reached the end of its useful life, and its reconstruction will bring it up to FAA standards.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a federal Department of Transportation grant of about $2.8 million for road rehabilitation because of Cyclone Gita.

"I'm pleased to announce more federal funds for our Territory's efforts to rebuild and have a full recovery from Storm Gita," said Aumua Amata. "This grant will benefit our Territory, and help pay for the efforts to put storm-damaged roads in good shape."

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed U.S. Senate approval of her cabotage bill to promote reliable air service in American Samoa.

Additionally, the bill, led in the House by Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) – who visited American Samoa earlier this year – ensures FAA funding for five years and includes other features, such as directing the FAA to establish a minimum seat size in U.S. passenger jet aircraft on behalf of passengers.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed over $23.3 million in federal resources to American Samoa for much-needed airport renovation projects to improve the pavement.

"This is a sizable grant for our Pago Pago International Airport, and it is great news for us this week," said Aumua Amata. "I'm especially pleased to welcome this important federal support to preserve and enhance our airport. Our airport is our primary connection to the United States and the rest of the Pacific, and it is essential to keep it in good repair."
