Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata is delighted to once again congratulate Victor Chen upon his second prestigious Service Academy acceptance. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point has also accepted him, joining the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado in offering a fully qualified appointment.
Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata is happy to announce that Victor Chen has been accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy, his first choice of the nation's prestigious Service Academies.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata highlighted the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 14 mission, in February of 1971, one of several Apollo missions in which the astronauts splashed down near American Samoa and were first welcomed back on land in American Samoa. In commemoration, Congresswoman Amata is placing a permanent Statement in the Congressional Record.

Each year, these nominations are selected on the high quality of the students' combined academic records, essays, along with letters of recommendation from their teachers, church leaders and local community leaders, plus the required verification that they have already applied separately to the academy or academies of their choice.

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed House passage of a bipartisan effort she has supported, the National Sea Grant College Amendments Program Act of 2020, S. 910, often called the Sea Grant Reauthorization Bill.
Congresswoman Amata cosponsored the House version of the same priority (the National Sea Grant College Program Amendments Act of 2019, HR 2405), and voted for it in the House National Resources Committee.
Pago Pago – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata congratulated three local organizations upon federal grant notifications for their youth programs teaching sexual risk avoidance. Together, the three grants total $929,206 for these efforts in American Samoa.

Pago Pago — Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed notification of an education grant for the Close Up program from the Interior Department's Office of Insular Affairs (OIA).
OIA is providing a grant of $672,978 to the Close Up Foundation for their youth opportunities in the Insular Areas, specifically designated to the Close Up Insular Area Program, with the federal funding via OIA's Technical Assistance Program (TAP).
Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata highlighted the opportunities for American Samoa's youth in the STEM fields that are emphasized in the global economy and often in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Amata spoke at the STEAM Family Expo, which included parents, students, organizers, sponsors, teachers and administrators from the STEAM Academy and the STEAM Partnership.
Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed an education grant for American Samoa of over $4 million for Head Start. This federal funding is through the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS) — the second HHS Head Start grant since late June.
Specifically, this discretionary grant to the American Samoa Department of Education is for $4,061,430 as designated to Head Start, the early childhood education program. Last month, Congresswoman Amata also welcomed a similar Head Start grant of $1,170,572.
