Pago Pago – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata congratulated three local organizations upon federal grant notifications for their youth programs teaching sexual risk avoidance. Together, the three grants total $929,206 for these efforts in American Samoa.
The three grants are as follows:

Pago Pago — Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed notification of an education grant for the Close Up program from the Interior Department's Office of Insular Affairs (OIA).
OIA is providing a grant of $672,978 to the Close Up Foundation for their youth opportunities in the Insular Areas, specifically designated to the Close Up Insular Area Program, with the federal funding via OIA's Technical Assistance Program (TAP).

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata highlighted the opportunities for American Samoa's youth in the STEM fields that are emphasized in the global economy and often in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Amata spoke at the STEAM Family Expo, which included parents, students, organizers, sponsors, teachers and administrators from the STEAM Academy and the STEAM Partnership.
Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed an education grant for American Samoa of over $4 million for Head Start. This federal funding is through the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS) — the second HHS Head Start grant since late June.
Specifically, this discretionary grant to the American Samoa Department of Education is for $4,061,430 as designated to Head Start, the early childhood education program. Last month, Congresswoman Amata also welcomed a similar Head Start grant of $1,170,572.
Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed an education grant for Head Start of over $1.17 million through the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS).
Specifically, the discretionary grant to the American Samoa Department of Education is for Head Start projects, an early childhood education program, at an amount of $1,170,572. As a national program, Head Start has been working with children for 55 years.

Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is the original cosponsor on a bill introduced in May with Rep. Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan of CNMI to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) educational opportunities in American Samoa and the Northern Marianas.

Congresswoman Amata was notified that Serenalia Iona has been offered an appointment by the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, pending final medical review.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is welcoming $45.6 million in CARES Act federal funds supporting education in American Samoa through the Education Stabilization Fund.

Washington, D.C.—Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata expressed support for the programs that American Samoa Community College (ASCC) relies on for grant funding. This week, ASCC Director of Agriculture, Community and National Resources Division Aufa'i Apulu Ropeti Areta was in Washington, visited the American Samoa congressional office, and met with Legislative Director Richard Stanton to discuss ASCC grant funding requests for agriculture research, food safety, environmental protection and education programs.
