Washington, DC –Monday,Congresswoman Aumua Amata, issued the following statement regarding the release of $7.8 Million in grant assistance for American Samoa by the Department of the Interior Office of Insular Affairs. This funding is what remains of the annual $22.75 Million as mandated by congress to support government operations in the territory.

Washington, D.C. –Friday, The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 10 Financial CHOICE Act yesterday. Included in H.R. 10 was Congresswoman Amata's bill H.R. 385, which would eliminate the long wait times for checks to clear in both American Samoa and the Northern Marianas.

Washington, DC –Thursday,Congresswoman Aumua Amata, was pleased to announce the awarding of $380,447 in maintenance assistance funding from the Department of the Interior, Office of Insular Affairs. The funding will be used for three initiatives to improve power utilities and provide technical training and education in the Pacific Insular region including American Samoa.

Washington, D.C. –Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata was pleased to announce that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the American Samoa EPA a grant in the amount of $866,000 for local environmental sustainability and rehabilitation projects.

U.S. EPA Acting Regional Director Alexis Strauss stated, "The American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency has been a great partner in environmental protection. We are pleased to support its programs committed to achieving a better environment for all the residents of American Samoa."

Washington, D.C. –Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata met with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during his second stopover in Pago Pago over the past few days to discuss some of the pressing issues facing American Samoa. Also participating in the historic meeting were Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga and Lt. Gov. Lemanu Peleti Mauga.

Washington, D.C. –Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded American Samoa two grants worth over $1.7million.

American Samoa will receive $857,600 from the State Homeland Security Program. This program provides funding to implement planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercise needs to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from catastrophic events.

Washington, D.C. –Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata gave moving remarks last Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery's - Women's Memorial in recognition of Memorial Day and the service and sacrifices that women have given to the United States Military. The Congresswoman was honored to be invited to speak at the event as the representative from the House Veterans Affairs Committee. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues laying a wreath at the memorial.
