Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata spoke to the Filipino Community in American Samoa at the invite of President Perpetua “Nemia” Aguirre at Lee Auditorium on June 15 in celebration of the 126th Philippines Independence Day (officially June 12). The celebration marks hard-won independence from Spain, a longtime world power of that era.
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting the national Juneteenth holiday, created by Congress in 2021. This holiday celebrates freedom by recognizing the historic events of June 19, 1865, which is the day that news of freedom traveled to the last known place practicing slavery in the United States. President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation more than two years before on New Year’s Day, 1863.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming a Bureau of Reclamation announcement of $11 million available among four U.S. territories for projects to provide domestic water supplies to U.S. territories. The combined funding requested across all proposals submitted by a territory under this opportunity cannot exceed $2.75 million.
