Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata released a statement on the news that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have announced an agreement with StarKist Co. and its subsidiary StarKist Samoa Company, in which the companies will make a series of upgrades to reduce pollution, improve safety measures, and comply with certain federal environmental laws at their tuna processing facility in American Samoa.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed action by the House Natural Resources Committee, which passed a bill including language she authored to protect the territory from unnecessary fishing restrictions being imposed by a federal agency without American Samoa's agreement.

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata was pleased to announce a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) grant of over $900,000 for the American Samoa Government.

"I welcome this financial support for American Samoa's coastal management efforts," Aumua Amata said. "Healthy coasts and waters are essential to American Samoa's future."

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata was privileged to attend an American Samoan soldier's Advanced Individual Training graduation ceremony at Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by a tour of the Fort and a special visit to the National Infantry Museum, where Governor Peter Tali Coleman is the only American Samoan inductee in the Hall of Honor.

"These efforts to preserve and update the Pago Pago Airport are major projects that deserve this funding," Aumua Amata said. "American Samoa must always have a dependable, accessible and well-maintained airport to help counter our economic and geographic isolation."
