Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata has submitted a public comment to the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) regarding Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) programs that are inaccessible to American Samoa and the other territories under inconsistent federal interpretation of the law. Governor Lemanu Mauga, and other territories’ governors, raised this concern at last week’s IGIA meeting.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming a prompt bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate, only hours after the House vote Thursday, that fully funds the U.S. government through February 18, 2022, sending the bill to President Biden to be signed into law in time to prevent a shutdown. Without action, a shutdown would have started over the weekend and could have led to reduced nonessential services.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming Thursday’s House vote to fund the U.S. government through February 18, 2022, including a Medicaid extension at current levels. This action allows Congress more time to complete yearly appropriations, preserving American Samoa’s federal Medicaid support while long-term legislation is considered that is expected to extend Medicaid for multiple years.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata said Friday that American Samoa's share of funding in one of two major spending bills has passed the House and will be sent to President Biden to be signed into law. The House-passed $550 billion infrastructure bill includes over $100 million for American Samoa, now secured, that will go toward transportation, roads, bridges, ports, airports, broadband, cyber security, sewer and safe drinking water.
