Pago Pago – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata held a town hall meeting with Veterans in American Samoa to discuss the status of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other federal services, including the partial federal government shutdown. The purpose of a town hall meeting is to speak face-to-face with constituents, hear their concerns directly, and update them on the work being done in Washington that affects American Samoa and Veterans.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed Senate final passage of a bipartisan House bill that she cosponsored, the No Hero Left Untreated Act, H.R. 1162, a Veterans health care initiative. The bill has been sent to President Trump to be signed into law, and it builds an important groundwork for more future treatment for Veterans who have suffered trauma, starting with a pilot program.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata joined Members of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in a Joint Veterans Hearing at the Capitol. During this hearing, VA Secretary Robert Wilkie stated his intention to visit American Samoa, and lauded our many Pacific Islander Veterans living throughout a 4.5 million square mile expanse of the Pacific Region.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata and other members of the Veterans Affairs Committee examined the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) efforts to implement the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2017, often called the AMA.

Pago Pago – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata released the following statement in honor of our Veterans for the 73rd Anniversary of V-J Day:

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata joined colleagues on the Committee on Veterans' Affairs in speaking at a press conference in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center to highlight recent progress and the path forward on veterans' legislation. The Veterans' Affairs Committee has been on a busy pace, with 72 bills passed by the full House of Representatives, and of those, 26 so far signed into law by President Trump.
Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed Senate confirmation of Robert Wilkie to lead the Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA).
Secretary Wilkie was nominated by President Trump to serve as VA Secretary during the ongoing legislative and administrative reform efforts to the department, and the U.S. Senate confirmed his appointment late Monday by a bipartisan vote of 86-9.
