Washington, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Aumua Amata cosponsored a Veterans bill, which was introduced this week; the House passed three other bipartisan VA health bills; and she took part in a House/Senate Joint Hearing with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata took part in the first full Committee hearing of the 116th Congress in the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, which will help set up the legislative work for the year ahead and establish priorities. VA Secretary Robert Wilkie testified in a hearing titled, AVision for the Future of the VA.
Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata took part in a Joint Senate/House Veterans hearing, attended by hundreds of Veterans at the U.S. Capitol. She also welcomed passage of a bill containing better Pacific volcano monitoring, and studying the possibility of future observatories in American Samoa, Guam and CNMI.
Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata supported the Veterans Access to Child Care Act, H.R. 840, which passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 400-9 including an amendment by Rep. Amata.
Washington, DC – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata announced she has been named Vice Ranking Member of the full Veterans' Affairs Committee for the 116th Congress. This is in addition to an earlier announcement of the same Vice Ranking Member position for the Small Business Committee.

Pago Pago – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata held a town hall meeting with Veterans in American Samoa to discuss the status of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other federal services, including the partial federal government shutdown. The purpose of a town hall meeting is to speak face-to-face with constituents, hear their concerns directly, and update them on the work being done in Washington that affects American Samoa and Veterans.
Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed Senate final passage of a bipartisan House bill that she cosponsored, the No Hero Left Untreated Act, H.R. 1162, a Veterans health care initiative. The bill has been sent to President Trump to be signed into law, and it builds an important groundwork for more future treatment for Veterans who have suffered trauma, starting with a pilot program.
Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata joined Members of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in a Joint Veterans Hearing at the Capitol. During this hearing, VA Secretary Robert Wilkie stated his intention to visit American Samoa, and lauded our many Pacific Islander Veterans living throughout a 4.5 million square mile expanse of the Pacific Region.
