Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, For the hotly contested floor debate yesterday on H.R. 1994, the VA Accountability Act, which split Members largely along party lines, House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller (R-FL), who managed the debate for the Majority, selected Amata as one of only eight speakers to speak in support of the measure during the half-hour allotted to the majority side. When the smoke cleared, the GOP had prevailed with the passage of the bill by a vote of 256 – 170, including a number of Democrats joining the winning side. The measure will now move to the Senate for consideration.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, The House Veterans Affairs Committee (HVAC) conducted a hearing today to, Receive the Secretary’s Testimony regarding the Pending VA Health Care Budget Shortfall and System Shutdown. The hearing, which was just announced last week, was called to address recent revelations disclosed by VA officials regarding a budgetary shortfall for the year.

This bill would allow the VA Secretary and managers, greater authority to remove VA employees who fail to meet the standards of care and service that the American people expect for our veterans.

The American Legion - June 19, 2015
Solutions were devised to assist veterans living in Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Marianas during a June 15 roundtable hosted by The American Legion in its Washington office.
Representatives from The American Legion, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Small Business Administration, Asian Pacific American Advocates and staff from the office of Rep. Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen, (R-Samoa), discussed efforts to improve access to benefits for veterans currently living in the Pacific Islands area.
