Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata voted to permanently preserve and protect a historic site in Kentucky under the mission of the National Park Service, as the Natural Resources Committee advanced six bills, and highlighted our own National Park of American Samoa.

Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata voted for legislative efforts that continue the process of reforming the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs, as the Veterans Affairs Committee passed a total of 16 bills.
"Our country has a special commitment to our veterans," said Aumua Amata. "Step by step, the Veterans Affairs Committee is working on these challenges, bringing reforms to the VA, and seeking better ways to give our veterans the services they deserve."

In American Samoa, we recently observed our patriotic Flag Day celebrations, and that wonderful week always includes a community church service that helps us remember to be grateful to God for our lives, families and country.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata advised members of the military from American Samoa and their families that there is no Pentagon policy change regarding U.S. Nationals. Instead, a recent U.S. Army administrative memo informs on the necessary process for those U.S. Armed Forces personnel that plan on certain career advancements, such as becoming commissioned officers or obtaining security clearances.

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed House passage of legislation that includes her cabotage provision to promote reliable air service in American Samoa. This solution has passed the House before, but not yet in the Senate; however, this time the provision is included in a major bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) which passed the House by a vote of 393-13, and the U.S. Senate will also need to act to authorize the FAA.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata and the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs examined two legislative solutions to localized concerns, one in Alaska and one on Native American lands throughout the country.

Washington, D.C. – Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata is pleased to announce the winners of the Malofie Congressional Art Competition. This year's first-place winner is Samoana High School's Katie Godinet with her artwork entitled "My Traditional Wear." The second-place winner is Da In Myung of South Pacific Academy with her artwork entitled "My Flag—My American Samoa." Third-place honors were earned by Trish Buenavista of Fa'asao Marist High School with her artwork entitled "New Culture."

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Doug Domenech's announcement granting $10.6 million in federal funds to American Samoa for infrastructure developmental needs.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata congratulated the American Samoa Society upon winning the national Roc C. Haines Award as the Outstanding State or Territorial Society of the Year within the National Conference of State and Territorial Societies (NCSS). The prestigious award was announced in Washington, D.C., at the Cherry Blossom Grand Ball, the leading event of the 2017-2018 year.
