Washington, D.C. –Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, and the House Small Business Committee held a markup yesterday, approving bipartisan legislation to expand and improve opportunities for America’s small businesses to compete for federal contracts. The measure, H.R. 4341, the Defending America’s Small Contractors Act of 2016, was approved unanimously by the committee and now advances to the House floor for consideration.

Washington, D.C. –Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, and the House Committee on Small Business (HCSB) conducted a hearing today on Capitol Hill, regarding mismanagement at the Small Business Administration (SBA).

"It is essential that the SBA properly perform its duties. The nation's small businesses and entrepreneurs deserve to have an administration that supports their efforts to expand our economy and create jobs," stated Amata.

The board met in Tafuna to review applications and interview the applicants competing for a nomination to one or more of the four service academies.

Washington, D.C. –Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, attended a luncheon briefing that was hosted by the U.S. Navy League on Capitol Hill. The topic of the luncheon was the status of current worldwide United States Naval operations and the Navy's role in our national security.

"It is vital that we as Members of Congress are regularly briefed on the operations of our military in regards to our national security. We rely on these briefings to formulate sound policies that will help us better protect our nation," stated Amata.

Washington, D.C. –Tuesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, conducted a staff meeting with her Washington, D.C. office to go over the priorities for American Samoa during the Second Session of the 114th Congress. The Congresswoman briefed her staff on the legislative priorities that she intends to focus on this year, as well as the other ways she plans on promoting and ensuring the continued new interest in the island from both leadership in Congress and the private business sector.

Last year, the Congresswoman hosted the first competition for High School students from American Samoa.

Washington, D.C. –Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed the "Omnibus", long-term funding bill this morning, which finances government operations through the end of the fiscal year, next September.

Pago Pago –Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, in a letter to the Director of the American Samoa Department of Education, formally advised the Director that as a result of her negotiations with House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman, John Kline, the American Samoa Department of Education will see a dramatic increase in funding beginning in 2017.
