Washington, D.C.- Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata took part in a House Veterans' Affairs Committee (HVAC) hearing that focused on whistleblowers at the Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA). The hearing, titled ‘Learning from Whistleblowers at the Department of Veterans' Affairs', was held by the HVAC Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and chaired by Representative Chris Pappas of New York.

Garret Graves (R-LA), Rep. Albio Sires (D-NJ), and Rep. Donna E. Shalala (D-FL) in introducing the bipartisan Peace Corps Reauthorization Act of 2019 (H.R.3456).

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata was pleased to confirm that the House Natural Resources Committee has reaffirmed their commitment to hold a hearing to examine the need for a streamlined citizenship choice for those individual U.S. Nationals in American Samoa that want citizenship. While many American Samoans are happy with their status as US Nationals many American Samoans, especially those on the mainland choose naturalization often for purposes of military promotions, security clearances, along with other employment or personal reasons.

Washington, D.C.- Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata attended a hearing of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Health, examining ways to strengthen health care in the U.S. Territories.

This follows a similar hearing in the House Committee on Natural Resources committee held on May 23 in which all 5 Medicaid directors from each of the territories testified, including American Samoa Medicaid Director Sandra King-Young.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a federal health care grant for American Samoa from the U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Department.

The discretionary grant of $588,815 was awarded to the American Samoa Department of Health by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is an agency within HHS. This grant provides federal funding for immunization and vaccines for children.
