Juneteenth recognizes the historic events of June 19, 1865. It was on that day that delayed news of freedom reached the last known place openly practicing slavery in the U.S., though President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation two-and-a-half years earlier on New Year’s Day, 1863.

The House of Representatives passed the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Act of 2023, S. 777, unanimously on May 23.
