Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting the national Juneteenth holiday, created through the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, signed into law in 2021. Juneteenth recognizes the historic events of June 19, 1865. It was on that day that delayed news of freedom reached the last known place openly practicing slavery in the U.S., though President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation two-and-a-half years earlier on New Year’s Day, 1863.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting a cost of living boost in several Veterans’ benefits next year. The House of Representatives passed the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Act of 2023, S. 777, unanimously on May 23. It had already passed the Senate, and President Biden signed the increase into law Wednesday.

Task Force Chairman Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen (R-American Samoa) with Co-Chairman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan (D-CNMI) led the bipartisan examination of how the Compacts of Free Association (COFA) support U.S. interests and counter the People's Republic of China's (PRC) influence.
