Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata was humbled and blessed to spend several days over the holidays, including Christmas Day, with U.S. troops in the Middle East. A group of eight Members of Congress welcomed the opportunity to help serve a Christmas meal to hundreds of U.S. service men and women, tour installations, and visit those deployed in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Sicily.

Washington, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed House passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020. This major annual legislation authorizes Pentagon operations, a pay increase for the troops, increased survivor benefits for military families, and expanded Pacific security provisions. It requires a much-needed report on the status of the Runit Dome in the Marshall Islands, which houses nuclear waste material from 67 nuclear tests conducted in the Marshall Islands before 1958.

Washington, D.C. – Saturday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata released the following statement in remembrance of Pearl Harbor Day, and in honor of all who served:
"December 7, 1941, is known to history by President Roosevelt's famous words as ‘date which will live in infamy.' This attack brought the United States into World War II. We pray that such a worldwide war will never again be faced by another generation. We honor those who lost their lives, and the many stories of courage that day.

Our Veterans have been all over the world serving with honor. They've made us proud, and each one has contributed to the building of a special tradition of service throughout our islands.
