Pago Pago –Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, expressed her sincere gratitude to House Education & Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline for his support of a most generous increase in funding for the elementary and secondary education divisions of the American Samoa Department of Education (ASDOE). The increase is the result of a new formula that Congresswoman Amata was able to negotiate into the bill. This change in formula will allow for an estimated 67 percent increase for elementary and secondary education in the islands.

Washington, D.C. –Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, announced today that the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) under the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Administration (HHS) has awarded a grant in the amount of $1,000,000 to the LBJ Medical Center in Pago Pago for the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home visiting Program.

Amouli, American Samoa – March 8, 2016 – Congresswoman Aumua Amata held a Town Hall meeting in the lovely village of Amouli at the eastern end of the island of Tutuila. It was a stormy night with heavy rain and possible dangerous road conditions. Some questioned the advisability of making the nearly hour drive. But Amata received a call from the village pulenu’u asking for confirmation and she did confirm that she would be there on time, even if only a few people were able to attend.

Pago Pago –Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata, in a letter to Governor Lolo this week, stated that she was pleased to inform the Governor, and American Samoa Government (ASG) officials, that the anticipated increase to elementary and secondary education on the island will be even larger than previously expected.

MS. RADEWAGEN: Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize International Women’s Day. Officially, we began to recognize International Women’s Day in 1977, but its roots can be traced back to the early 20th Century.

We use the day to recognize the contributions that women have made to our society, and to bring awareness to the continuing inequality between the genders.
