Washington, D.C. – Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed over $1.375 million in federal funds to American Samoa for LBJ Tropical Medical Center and other energy infrastructure.

"The Interior Department is releasing four different energy infrastructure grants to American Samoa, totaling $1,375,816," said Aumua Amata. "Two of these are designated for LBJ hospital projects, another to the shipyard and another to American Samoa Power Authority."

Washington, DC – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata released the following statement concerning Hurricane Michael, which has reached landfall in the Florida panhandle region of the United States mainland:

"Our prayerful thoughts are with those enduring this powerful storm, or already displaced by its approach. It appears the very high winds and rain from this storm will widely impact shoreline and cities over a large area, perhaps even the nearby National Forest and the military bases, where some of our own Samoan and Polynesian community are likely to serve.

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed U.S. Senate approval of her cabotage bill to promote reliable air service in American Samoa.

Additionally, the bill, led in the House by Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) – who visited American Samoa earlier this year – ensures FAA funding for five years and includes other features, such as directing the FAA to establish a minimum seat size in U.S. passenger jet aircraft on behalf of passengers.

"I will miss Utu Abe Malae deeply, and I know that many of us share a heavy sense of loss. I'm saddened beyond words by this news, and my heart is with his family and those closest to him. A man of compassion, he cared for the people of American Samoa, and helped so many of our people over the years.

Washington, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Aumua Amata supported the Real ID Act Modification for Freely Associated States Act (H.R. 3398), which she cosponsored, including a Statement for the Congressional Record urging this action. On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed this bipartisan bill to help citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia that live in the United States obtain necessary identifications and driver's licenses.

Washington, D.C. – Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed the advancement of her cabotage bill to promote reliable air service in American Samoa. The provision is part of a renewed push in Congress to complete re-authorization this month for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Washington, D.C. – Wednesday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata voted on a series of ten bills marked up and passed by the Natural Resources Committee, and notably, cosponsored and supported a bipartisan bill sponsored by Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI) to designate Pacific World War II sites in Hawai'i as national sites for permanent preservation.
